Seaboard Marine has announced its latest investment in the shipping industry with an
order for 1,000 Star Cool Integrated Reefers, including a portion of units equipped with
Star Cool CA (Controlled Atmosphere). This order, facilitated through leasing company
Global Container International (GCI), reflects Seaboard Marine鈥檚 commitment to
modernizing its fleet and enhancing its operational efficiency.

The order includes MCI鈥檚 Sekstant reefer monitoring, marking a step in Seaboard Marine鈥檚 digital transformation journey. Sekstant provides real-time monitoring and control of the reefer containers and unique OEM features, enhancing operational efficiency and providing critical data for optimizing supply chain logistics. This integration is a crucial component of MCI鈥檚 strategy to advance digitalization in the reefer container industry.

Evergreen Marine Corp.(Evergreen), has announced their latest reefer injection of 1000 Star Cool Units will be fitted with Sekstant. This order comes after a successful year-long connectivity trial of the Sekstant reefer monitoring solution, which offers transparent and convenient control to Evergreen’s trade operation.

Evergreen first ordered Star Cool reefers from 365吃瓜部落 Container Industry in 2020, and since continued expanding the Star Cool fleet in their global operation.

Evergreen chose the Star Cool Units to support the company’s operational requirements and dedication to environmental sustainability. Energy efficiency is achieved by a proven combination of frequency converter technology and a robust variable speed reciprocating compressor, resulting in optimal control of motor speed based on cooling demand and required air circulation, ensuring an ideal cargo environment while saving energy.

The benefits by connecting the modern reefers to the internet are endless, both for Evergreen as the operator and Star Cool as the OEM. As example, the actual carbon footprint is documented remotely on both trip and fleet-wide level and the whereabout and condition of each reefer is globally tracked as well. On the manufacturer side, performance can be continuously monitored, and knowledge gained can be used to optimize performance 鈥� which can be rapidly deployed to the entire connected fleet with a software update.

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. (ZIM) has announced its latest investment in the shipping industry with the order of 1,000 Star Cool reefers with Sekstant door sensors and a similar volume for retrofitting to its existing Star Cool reefers.

The move comes as part of ZIM’s ongoing collaboration with 365吃瓜部落 Container Industry (MCI) to upgrade its ZIMonitor reefer fleet and support the growth of temperature-controlled cargo.

The Star Cool population has rapidly grown with ZIM, now covering approximately one-third of the reefer fleet. ZIM has invested in MCI’s complete reefer package, including the Star Cool Integrated and the Sekstant gateway for reefer connectivity. The Sekstant Door sensor is a wireless door opening surveillance system that has been co-developed by ZIM, a pioneer in this field. The Sekstant solution creates the tracking and data needed to deliver ZIM’s commercial reefer tracking product, ZIMonitor.

We are committed to providing the highest level of service and reliability to our customers, and our investment in the Sekstant gateways and door sensors for our Star Cool reefers is just one example of that commitment. With the Sekstant solution, we can better track and monitor our reefer fleet, and provide our customers with real-time information about their cargo, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of their products.

The Sekstant door sensor is an add-on that provides even more information to the digital fleet management system. It is now possible to monitor when the door of the reefer has been closed, and just as important – when it has been opened. The door events are registered in the Sekstant cloud and are visible in the Sekstant user interface. The Sekstant digital ecosystem enables access to real-time reefer information, monitoring, reporting, and seamless fleet management from anywhere in the world. The door sensor data is consolidated with the remaining reefer control data incl. time stamp and GPS coordinates. It comes as a factory-mounted option or can be retrofitted on every Sekstant-equipped reefer. The wireless sensor connects to the reefer controller, and door events are even captured while the reefer is powered off, making it possible to document if a door event has deviated from the planned timeline, and trigger an alert.

Part of ZIM’s fleet also includes Star Cool CA to cater to ZIM’s controlled atmosphere shipments. Energy efficiency and product reliability are keys to success and therefore ZIM has placed its trust in MCI’s Star Cool Controlled Atmosphere system, which has over 10 years of proven performance and reliability in the market. ZIM’s latest investment in Sekstant door sensors and MCI’s complete reefer package demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the growth of the shipping industry and its customers.

The Sekstant door sensors will provide ZIM with the data and tracking it needs to deliver ZIMonitor, a first-class solution for high value and sensitive cargo. The new Star Cool CA reefers entered ZIM’s container fleet during March 2023.

He will replace Sean Fitzgerald who has decided to step down from the role as CEO and relocate to the US.

I am very pleased that S酶ren Leth Johannsen has accepted being appointed CEO of MCI. With his many years at MCI, he has great insight in both market and customers, which will be valuable on the journey ahead. I would also like to thank Sean Fitzgerald for all his dedication since joining five years ago. He has been instrumental in MCI鈥檚 transformation and is handing over the baton of a financially resilient company.

The intended divestment was announced on 28 September 2021 and was expected to close in 2022. As a part of the closing process, the transaction was subject to regulatory approvals.

365吃瓜部落 Container Industry produces Star Cool unit no. 400,000

365吃瓜部落 Container Industry (MCI) is proud to announce another significant milestone in our 30-year history as a key supplier to the global maritime shipping and intermodal industries.

In July 2021, Star Cool unit number 400,000 was produced, marking a historic landmark since the first Star Cool unit was produced back in 2005 – the very first series of Star Cool units produced for the open market.

In the 16 years since then, Star Cool reefers have been in service with many of the global and regional carriers and leasing companies around the world with more than 50% owned and operated outside of the 365吃瓜部落 group.

Since our inception, Star Cool has been the reefer industry鈥檚 leading innovator. The company has introduced many products and features that continue to separate us from the competition. These innovations include taking the lead in the field of energy performance, developing an industry-leading, reliable and cost-effective CA system, proving the durability and economic advantage of our integrated reefers, offering a pragmatic refrigerant solution that reduces the Global Warming Potential (GWP) by 56%, and developing the first OEM connectivity system, 鈥楽ekstant鈥�.  

鈥淲e are celebrating this major event with all our many customers as well as our over 400 authorized Star Cool service providers around the world, without whom MCI would never had reached such a landmark within a relatively short period鈥�, commented S酶ren Leth Johannsen, CCO of MCI.   

鈥淲e are particularly happy to see that Star Cool number 400,000 will go into service with HMM, one of MCI鈥檚 earliest customers in Asia. MCI has been supplying reefer containers to HMM since before the Star Cool launch.  As early as 2009, HMM entrusted MCI with their first Star Cool order of 150 units. Today, the company has grown and continues to operate a significant number of Star Cool reefers in their global service 鈥� including both Star Cool Integrated and Star Cool units, as well as Star Cool CA鈥�, Johannsen explained. 

To make sure that HMM and other important customers based in South Korea were well supported, MCI took steps early in 2010 to deploy our own Star Cool service manager in country. This marked one of MCI鈥檚 important early service expansion moves.  Today, a team of dedicated Star Cool service managers are deployed in key markets around the world.   

鈥淗MM is looking forward receiving Star Cool no. 400,000 into our growing reefer operation. Our longstanding relationship with MCI is based on mutual trust and close cooperation. Moreover, Star Cool supports the vision and mission of HMM, so we are confident Star Cool no. 500,000 running off the production line will not be far away鈥�, said Mr. Kwon, Purchasing Team / Manager, HMM Co., Ltd.  

The most recent order from HMM is for a total of 1,500 Star Cool units, which are being shipped to another box manufacturer for commissioning and immediate deployment in HMM鈥檚 60 worldwide service routes, including 27 as part of THE Alliance.
